"There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page or closing the book."

It's been a great year for The Fit Lift.  Founded last January, it has been an amazing and humbling experience sharing our stories, shining the spotlight on incredible women, inspiring our followers through our blog and Instagram, and creating our own apparel collection.  The greatest gift is learning so much about ourselves along the way.

Through the year, we have forged ahead despite life pulling us in all different directions, both good and bad.  It became difficult to maintain the same amount of fiery passion we had when we first began, as badly as we wanted it.  We became faced with the decision of investing more resources into continuing our apparel collection or discontinuing, and as a result, we have chosen to close our shop.

Our goal has always been to motivate, inspire and empower women to live a healthy lifestyle.  We believe that we can help others to both start, and continue on the path of living a healthy lifestyle by leading by example. By investing in your body and your mind, and striving for progress rather than perfection, you will become the BEST version of yourself.  We wholeheartedly believe this to be true.

In efforts to spread our messages STRENGTH IS BEAUTY and UNSTOPPABLE, we have circulated nearly 700 pieces of apparel across North America.  Thank you all of you; individuals, organizations, teams, Hot Mama Fit, and especially Cindy and Goodlife Fitness.

Continue to live your best life choosing joy and doing what makes YOU happy.  You are strong.  You are beautiful. You are unstoppable.

And the best part is, you can now grab some goodies from our shop now up to 60% off!  Quantities and sizes are extremely limited so hurry.  www.thefitliftapparel.com

From the bottom of our hearts, an endless thank you for your support.

I met Ashley a few months ago after a mutual relative of ours suggested we connect with one another as we have several mutual interests.

Ashley's energy, enthusiasm and love of fitness are contagious and I know that she has earned the respect of her many followers of Hot Mama Fitness in Sherwood Park. I was more than happy to invite Ash to participate in our Spotlight questionnaire to learn how she continues to motivate others and stay motivated herself in living a healthy life.

1. Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

My Name is Ashley Giordano. I am a mama to 1.5year old Daughter (Gianna), a wife, a lover of
fitness, peanut butter and anything coconut. I own Hot Mama Health & Fitness in Sherwood Park. Inspiring mamas and families to be strong and healthy role models for their families is what I love
to do! Prior to launching my business in June 2015 I was a dental assistant for 10 years and
always lead an active lifestyle. Once you get to know me you begin to realize that I am always on
the move!

2. What does STRENGTH mean to you?

Strength to me is both physical and mental. To train and motivate yourself to push past difficult
times whether it is during a workout or during a very tough and long day with the kids! Gaining
that physical strength to push out of your comfort zone and to be proud of yourself with everything that you do! Mental strength to practice gratitude, positivity and to create goodness around you.

3. What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is always learning to love yourself. Granted you are not always going to love everything
about you BUT taking those *not so favorite* attributes and turning them around to find the positives. Beauty to love the skin you are in and find something that makes you feel confident
everyday! For me moving my body, sweating daily and being strong makes me feel the most
beautiful of all!

4. What inspires you?  What is your driving force?

I have 3 huge driving forces in my life.

#1: My Daughter. I want her to grow up being active and seeing her mama being active as well! To
learn about strength, and loving herself and attaining goals. There is so much corruption that can
enter their little minds and I want to make sure I am the best possible role model for her.

#2 My Mamas. I see dozens of mamas weekly coming to class. Sleepless nights, 1..2..3 kids, work,
husbands and meal prep AND THEY STILL COME TO CLASS AND KILL IT. Every.Single. Time. When I see how hard they work, and how dedicated they are it lights a fire inside of me!

#3 ME. I inspire me. How can I be better than yesterday? Can I be more patient? Can I lift more
weight? Can I be happier and help someone by making THEM happier? This past year has been a
huge growth year for me. I am dedicated and will strive to be a better version of myself daily.

5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Making the leap into being a mompreneur. Starting a new business and it being so successful
instantly makes me more proud than words can say. We change lives. We inspire and motivate
people and THEY feel beautiful and strong. Everyday I could tell the whole world that I am so
proud to be a Hot Mama!

6. What is your biggest challenge?

Separating work time from family time. When I tell you I am dedicated… I am dedicated with a
capital D. I am slowly learning to create a line between working 24/7 and spending quality time
with others AND then taking time for just me. Slowly but surely I am getting there!

7.  What is your mantra?  What are your favorite words to live by?

"Surround yourself with wonderful people and wonderful things will happen."

"Your vibe attracts your tribe!”

1. Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

I am a master motivator in fitness and in life. I feel my life’s purpose is to encourage and motivate others to live their most fulfilling life. I do that through teaching fitness and Co-Active (life) Coaching. I'm currently on my third career which I feel is closest to my authentic self. I was a computer programmer for 10 years before pursuing a career in TV news. I left that career after 14 years to follow my passion of fitness and coaching.

2. What does STRENGTH mean to you?
Strength in body: being physically active so I have more energy to conquer my world. Strength in mind: always learning, growing, and seeking adventures big or small.

Strength in spirit: practicing gratitude, connecting with myself, and being with others who share the same values.

3. What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty on the outside: loving yourself enough to take care of your body by moving more and giving your body nutritious food. Plus, not denying yourself food that feeds your emotional body (ex. wine & chocolate).

Beauty on the inside: Loving all of yourself … the good and the “needs improvement”. Also, beauty is thinking loving and positive thoughts.

4. What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who are challenged every day but still see the bright side of life. Those who practice gratitude every day no matter what are also an inspiration to me.

What is your driving force?

My desire to live a fulfilling life. A fulfilling life to me is a life of good health, connection, laughter, love, peace and simplicity - preferably by the beach!

5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Right now I’d say my proudest accomplishment would be leaving my 14-year career in TV news to pursue my new career - which is a really mishmash of stuff - fitness coach, life coach etc.

6. What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is believing that I’m good enough. I’m getting better at this...

7. What is your mantra?

Lately my mantra has been “Cara, you got this!”

What are your favorite words to live by?

 “Be grateful.”

“Just be you.”

We are so thrilled to be shining the spotlight on Robyn as she competes this Saturday October 17, 2015 in the Evolve Classic Powerlifting Open, here in Edmonton.  Robyn is a competitive powerlifter in the Alberta Powerlifting Union (APU) and the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU).  When Robyn reached out to us to let us know about her goals we didn't hesitate in wanting to give her an opportunity to shine her.  Please read her inspirational interview below.

Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

Hey hey! My name is Robyn Homans and I’m a small town girl chasing my dreams in the big city of Edmonton.  I am currently taking my third year of Kinesiology, majoring in sport performance, with an end goal of a Master’s in Physical Therapy.  In my “me” time, I train and compete in Powerlifting.  Powerlifting is a strength sport comprised of three core lifts; the squat, bench press, and deadlift.  I have been competing since 2009 and am gearing up for another competition on here in Edmonton on October 17, 2015!  After this competition I will be competing at the Canadian Powerlifting Unions National Championships in Saskatchewan this coming February.

1.  What does STRENGTH mean to you?

Strength is more than muscle.  I think of it as a bright light bulb, with all the wires connected to it being the determination, perseverance, preparation, and psychological obstacles overcame to make the end product.  Strength is not just shown, but includes what happens behind the scenes in preparation.  Strength is achieving the main objective or goal, making a better choice, not skipping that workout, studying when everyone else is partying, standing up for yourself, and standing on your own two feet.

2.  What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is something that attracts you to something.  In my opinion, beauty should not be standardized, categorized or mainstreamed.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It is sad when you go onto Pinterest and search for “beauty”, only to find 11 ways to wake up pretty, ridiculously photoshopped models in bikinis, makeup products, and perfect “nike” checkmark eyebrows.  Since when did these things represent beauty?  In my eyes, beauty is confidence while being the best version of yourself, having a goal and working hard to achieve it, and taking care of your body on the inside and out.  Cumulatively, health is beauty.

3. How have you been UNSTOPPABLE?

There have been days and weeks when I can admit that I have nearly stopped, I think that's only human.  I can say that amongst those feelings, I have overcome the obstacles (okay, hormones) and continued on my path towards my end goals.  I’ve set goals and failed, only to get up and try again until I did succeed.  I am going into my upcoming competition with a goal of lifting 10x bodyweight, which I have failed at before in completion, but will try again because I AM UNSTOPPABLE.

4. What inspires you?  What is your driving force?

My biggest inspirations are my sisters.  I have an older sister (Amanda) and a twin sister (Brenda) who have given me the most amazing nieces and nephews.  My sisters are so incredibly strong for managing a household, keeping up with toddlers, maintaining their health, and being involved in so many extra curricular activities outside of their day-to-day lives.  I want to be a role model for Danika, Grayson, Owen and Aspen.  I want to show them that they can do anything that they set their mind to, that nothing can step in their way.  I want them to know that with dedication, motivation, hard work, and the drive to be the best version of themselves, they will soar farther than they envision.

5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

One of my proudest accomplishments was actually this past summer when I was selected to receive the Ross Shepard Award.  I was asked to make a speech outlining who I am, what I do, where I want to go, what motivates me, and how I plan to get there.  This speech was going to take place at a banquet with hundreds of people there (no pressure!).  Just prior to getting up to speak, an older gentleman was telling me how last year’s recipient fell on the way up to the podium.  Nervous and nearly sick to my stomach, I got up and presented my speech.  After the speech was done, I turned around to thank the gentlemen who presented me with the scholarship, only have one of them whisper in my ear, “turn around Robyn, you got yourself a standing ovation”.  It was the most amazing feeling to have hundreds of people standing in front of me, applauding me on my successes, achievements, and motivating me to continue to pursue my goals.

6. What has been your biggest challenge?

It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows to get where I am today.  When I graduated high school I actually took my diploma in Criminal Justice, with a dream of becoming an RCMP officer, walking in my grandfathers footsteps who served for this country in both world wars.  Unfortunately due to the vision requirements, even with corrective surgery, my left eye would not meet the basic entry requirement, and my file was terminated indefinitely.  I was heartbroken and devastated.  I worked in provincial corrections until I finally decided what I wanted to do with my life.  Going back to school at 25 years old, knowing that I will be 29 when I graduate with my degree in Kinesiology, let alone 32 when I am done the Masters program, has been a hard pill to swallow but I know in my heart that if I don’t do this, I will regret it and live the rest of my life asking “what if?”.

7. What is your favourite mantra or words to live by?

“What you think, you become.  What you feel, you attract.  what you imagine, you create.” ~ BUDDAH
