FIT TIP: Set SMART GOALS



Do you incorporate goal setting in your life?  As a teacher, I am constantly urging my students to set goals and we use the S.M.A.R.T. approach.  Goals can be set for fitness, business, learning, etc.  Stop and think about all 5 of these steps to setting a successful goal!

1.  SPECIFIC

What EXACTLY is it that you want to accomplish?  Add as many details as possible.  The "HOW" you plan on achieving it should be written here.

2.  MEASURABLE

How will you measure your goal?  Measurement will give you specific feedback, and help to hold you accountable

3.  ATTAINABLE

Goals should challenge you to bring about growth and change, but they need to be something that you can actually achieve.

4.  RELEVANT

Your goal has to be important to you.  If you are not intrinsically motivated by your goal, you will likely not follow through.

5.  TIMELY

Having a time-frame helps to keep you motivated and accountable.  Be careful not to set your time too far away so that you don't lose focus.
