Ready To Run: Favourite Running Apps

We're sharing our top five running apps that increase efficiency of your runs and keep you motivated!

1. Nike+ Running
Whether you're on the road or on the treadmill, the Nike+ Running App tracks your runs, pace, distance and time and helps you reach your goals.  And whether you're training for your first 5K or breaking a half PR, the Nike+ Coach gives you training programs, workouts, and coaching expertise.  The app also has social elements to share runs, achievements, and the option to challenge friends.  A neat feature is to load a Power Song of choice for some mid-run oomph!

2. 5K Runner: 0 to 5K Training or 10K Runner: 0 to 10K Training
These apps will guide you through the training for a 5K or 10K using run/walk intervals guided by an audio coach. The schedule isn't too strenuous or demanding either which makes your goal seem that much more attainable.  For example, the 5K training includes 30 minutes per day 3 days a week for 8 weeks!  The app also includes a history log showing your advancement to success.

3. Runkeeper
A favorite among seasoned runners, Runkeeper uses your phone's GPS to track walks, runs or bike rides. Keep tabs of your pace, distance, weight loss, training goals and more. With Runkeeper you can also calculate running pace, speed, route distance, elevation and calorie burn for any fitness activity.  You can also follow a training plan for a variety of run distances or create your own with audio coaching!

4. Zombies, run!
This app is hilariously motivating. You put your shoes on, slip in your ear buds and take a couple steps outside... and you'll hear them, they're after you!  Zombies!  There's only one thing you can do... RUN!  You're literally running to save the virtual world where you belong and running longer gives your community more rations for survival.  The app takes you through adventures to continually spice up your runs!  You can choose your own custom playlists before you begin and the story unfolds in between your tracks through a series of messages. There's also a Zombies, run! 5K Training that I've heard is equally entertaining!

5. Rock My Run

Rock My Run is a free app that provides continuous mixes of songs that are proven to help you stay more motivated during exercise.  Whether you're running or working out the gym, there's a playlist you'll enjoy in a variety of genres.  You can choose your music by genre, or search for playlists that are a specific length or beats per minute.
