In The Spotlight: Meet Heather Y.

THE FIT LIFT’s In The Spotlight category will interview active, inspiring women from all walks of life who demonstrate strength in many ways. Whether you've made small steps to lead a more healthy lifestyle or train like a beast, we want to celebrate YOU. We believe that by sharing our stories, we can help others to both start, and continue on the path of living a healthy lifestyle by leading by example.  If you would like to be featured on our blog, please email us.

Heather is my oldest niece, and 11 years separate us.  I asked Heather to take part in our Spotlight interview to have a mid-twenties perspective.  I have watched Heather grow to become a beautiful, successful, responsible woman.  I have always been impressed at how independent and self-sufficient she is, even while in high school, continuously working jobs and building savings. Heather has an energetic spirit, and an outgoing personality.  She has the ability to have a real conversation with anyone who crosses her path, and her smile is contagious.  She already has a life-scrapbook full of amazing and unique adventures and travels, and is always eager to try new things and visit new places… Honduras is next on her list!  Her determination and zest for life are such wondrous, admirable qualities, and I am so extremely proud of her strength and beauty.

1. Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

Hello! My name is Heather and I love nothing more than spending time with my boyfriend and best friend, Chris, and our two pups, Mika and Carlos. I love my job and all things outdoorsy!

 2. What does STRENGTH mean to you?

To me, STRENGTH means giving it your all and not giving up on yourself.

 3. What does BEAUTY mean to you?

BEAUTY to me means kindness. There is nothing more beautiful than an individual who is willing to go out of their way to help or support someone else.

 4. What inspires you? What is your driving force?

There are so many people in my life who inspire me. From my partner Chris to my mom and dad to my mentor to my best friends, and on and on. Out of everyone who inspires me, they all inspire me in different ways. I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for the people who are in my life.

My driving force is keeping active so that I can continue to live a healthy, happy life. Working in healthcare, I see a lot of sick people, day after day. I want to do everything I can to keep myself healthy because a lot of people do not have that option.

 5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is completing a 10 km run at the Saskatchewan Marathon. I have also went out of my comfort zone this past week and have signed up for PADI's Open Open Water Diver Course. Although I haven't accomplished it yet, I am proud of myself for finally stepping up and taking the initiative to register. I would have never done this without a little (ok,big) push from Chris! :)

 6. What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is finding the energy and time at the end of a long work day to complete a workout. I just have to remember how good it makes me feel, both mentally and physically, and that usually gets me moving; however, some days it isn't this easy.

 7. What is your mantra? What are your favorite words to live by?

My favorite words to live by are

"Live Your Life".

In fact, I love these three simple words so much that I have them tattooed on my body as a reminder of how important it is to live a healthy, happy life and to remember that you can do anything that you set your mind to!
