In the Spotlight: Meet Lisa M.

I met Lisa at my gym about a year ago. as she is a regular there, and a friendly face.  Lisa is one of those people who instantly puts those around her at ease with her warm and genuine smile, and sense of humour.  This woman is busy!  She is a nurse, athlete, fitness coach, part business-owner, writer on her blog, AND her and her boyfriend have two YouTube accounts where they provide fitness and food information with their own sense of fun.  What I love most about Lisa is that no matter how busy and successful she is, she radiates warmth, generosity, wit and grace; and seriously, that smile is pretty killer!  Please enjoy her interview below, and follow along on her instagram, blog and YouTube channels.

              



 1.  Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

 Hello everyone, my name is Lisa Mahoney and I am a 27 year old go-getter. By day, I am working as a Registered Nurse providing health screening for teachers or as a Case Manager in Supportive Living sites. By night, I dive into my passion for fitness where I am in gym, filming videos for my YouTube Channel, blogging or connecting with my fitness clients.

2. What does STRENGTH mean to you?

For me, strength means initiative and motivation. For someone to have success of reaching a goal, they need to have the strength to realize a need or want to change. Change is an inevitable aspect in life and whether you are deciding to start a fitness journey, change jobs or start a family, you first need to have the strength for self-betterment and subject yourself to potential obstacles and risks for success.

3. What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty really isn't something tangible for me to describe. Beauty is the adjective that is captured when positivity and love are combined. When having an open mind of endless possibilities, beauty is then subjectively witnessed.

4. What inspires you? What is your driving force?

Timelines inspire me. It sounds funny, but knowing I have time restrictions, push me to give my all. Whether it be my short term and long term goals or the fact that I grow older everyday, I know that I have things I want and need to do! When I falter and need a boost, I know my loved ones will help me realize my blessings and potential and help me back on track.

5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment at this time would be finding outlets to follow my passion of health and fitness.

1) As a hobby, I compete in Bikini competitions. My latest season ended after 26 long weeks of dieting and training hard. I went from placing first in an Edmonton regional show, second in provincials and placing Top 5 in Canada.

2) My boyfriend and I have started up two YouTube channels, LB fitTV and LB foodTV where we provide information on fitness and nutrition and with some humour along the way.

3) I have begun offering nutrition and personal training after completing my International Personal Training Certificate for lifestyle-type clients.

4) My latest edition is my personal blog Snacks and Snapbacks. This gives me the opportunity to document my own journey while helping inspire others to follow their dreams and remain healthy throughout their fitness journeys.

6. What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge at this point in my life is finding balance. With lots on my plate, I find I have little down time. I am very blessed that I have very supportive and understanding family, friends and boyfriend. I am also very thankful for the creator of sticky notes because writing lists and sticking them in my day-timer and fridge really help keep things in priority.

7. What is your mantra? What are your favorite words to live by?

Never stop learning.


As much as I thought learning ended after school, I was so naive as to how much learning happens as you live. Knowledge is so readily available which help you uncover and discover anything you set your mind to. Even when it isn't fully intentional, you are constantly learning more about yourself and life. You never really are too old to learn new things and I encourage everyone to constantly challenge themselves and seek new opportunities. It’s as they say, “ The more you know, the more you don’t know.”!
