In The Spotlight: Meet Cara F.

THE FIT LIFT’s In The Spotlight category will interview active, inspiring women from all walks of life who demonstrate strength in many ways. Whether you've made small steps to lead a more healthy lifestyle or train like a beast, we want to celebrate YOU. We believe that by sharing our stories, we can help others to both start, and continue on the path of living a healthy lifestyle by leading by example.  If you would like to be featured on our blog, please email us.

If you reside in Calgary, you may already recognize this beautiful gal from our local news.  What you may not know about Cara is that she took a leap of faith and  left her TV news career to follow a life-long passion of fitness and coaching.

It has been a pleasure to participate in Cara's Orange Theory classes where she is a top-notch coach and motivator.  Her dynamic energy, charisma, and humour sustains us through a gruelling 60 minute class.  Cara is also a Healthy Lifestyle Expert and Life Coach where she ignites passion and purpose in people who are committed to a better, more fulfilling journey, led by her own life philosophies of shedding limiting beliefs, following your passion, and becoming your best self.

I was happy to invite Cara to participate in our Spotlight questionnaire to learn more of what propels her forward daily.

1. Provide us a brief introduction about who you are.

I am a master motivator in fitness and in life. I feel my life’s purpose is to encourage and motivate others to live their most fulfilling life. I do that through teaching fitness and Co-Active (life) Coaching. I'm currently on my third career which I feel is closest to my authentic self. I was a computer programmer for 10 years before pursuing a career in TV news. I left that career after 14 years to follow my passion of fitness and coaching.

2. What does STRENGTH mean to you?
Strength in body: being physically active so I have more energy to conquer my world. Strength in mind: always learning, growing, and seeking adventures big or small.

Strength in spirit: practicing gratitude, connecting with myself, and being with others who share the same values.

3. What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty on the outside: loving yourself enough to take care of your body by moving more and giving your body nutritious food. Plus, not denying yourself food that feeds your emotional body (ex. wine & chocolate).

Beauty on the inside: Loving all of yourself … the good and the “needs improvement”. Also, beauty is thinking loving and positive thoughts.

4. What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who are challenged every day but still see the bright side of life. Those who practice gratitude every day no matter what are also an inspiration to me.

What is your driving force?

My desire to live a fulfilling life. A fulfilling life to me is a life of good health, connection, laughter, love, peace and simplicity - preferably by the beach!

5. What is your proudest accomplishment?

Right now I’d say my proudest accomplishment would be leaving my 14-year career in TV news to pursue my new career - which is a really mishmash of stuff - fitness coach, life coach etc.

6. What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is believing that I’m good enough. I’m getting better at this...

7. What is your mantra?

Lately my mantra has been “Cara, you got this!”

What are your favorite words to live by?

 “Be grateful.”

“Just be you.”

  1. I’m glad that you decided to step out of your comfort zone to pursue your passion. It’s unbelievable how you managed success in three careers when most people can’t even do that in one.
